See, I have a card!
I had pre-registration for my one class that I’m taking this semester, and in the process I got registered and as evidenced by this piece of plastic, I’m now Official.
During the pre-registration session, a professor said something interesting, he was discussing the new “stewardship” concentration, and he told us to expect to be a “CEO of a non-profit organization”. (he then went on to state that that is probably not a good thing, almost as if it is a necessary evil)
This brought to mind some questions
Is it good to teach pastors to be CEOs of non-profit organizations?
How involved should a pastor be in his church’s financial considerations?
Do we as Southern Baptists view Church as a business of sorts, or do we view it as something different?
How involved can a pastor be in his church’s logistical considerations, and still maintain the spirit of Peter’s statement of Acts 6:4 – “But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”?
Finally, this reminded me of something that I am desperately on the lookout for in my own life, and something I far too often fail at. Namely, within all the talk about methodologies and strategies and vision and dates and definitions and languages and academic navel-gazing, how much true, Christ-like humility do we strive for, or are we too caught up in our own perceived cleverness that we forget the One who has molded and made and who sustains and saves us?
